Of course one does not choose to have surgery for fun but if it's necessary I highly recommend South Perth Hospital as the place to go.

I stayed over night, all the nurses were amazing, very nice, gentle and helpful.

Laura at HULC was also great and today I got a follow up call from Leonie to see how I was feeling. What incredible service is all I can say - I am feeling great and my finger is hardly even painful today.

An example of the personal touch I experienced at South Perth is the effort made by all the staff to call me by my preferred name Dinny rather than my official name Joan. From the person who completed my paperwork (I am sorry I have forgotten your name) to Catherine who settled me into the comfortable ward with private bathroom and tv, Jaimi who took over and looked after me after the op and brought sandwiches and tea, Bron in recovery, Shona who chatted to me during the procedure and the orderlies who wheeled me about, everyone treated me like a real person rather than just a case. Angus Keogh allowed me to emerge from my side of the tent so that he could explain and I could have a look at what he was doing on his side. It was interesting to see my white finger with the skin peeled back and the tendon exposed but I really preferred my side of the tent where we were talking politics and Pat Coleman the anaesthetist and Shona were comparing puppies. Both puppies were incredibly sweet - I could not choose between them.

I had a small operation under local anaesthetic but from the care and attention I received from all the staff you would have thought I was in for something life threatening (or at any rate far more interesting than a small cyst on a finger).
